BASI Pilates unites and raises money for Australian Bushfire Charities
During the Australian summer of 2019/2020 our country suffered the worst season of bushfires on record. When news of the devastating bushfires went global, our BASI family at HQ stepped in to help.
Within hours, BASI Pilates founder, Rael Isacowitz and his team were pulling together a fundraiser idea to help contribute to the bushfire relief efforts.
With a little help from Rael’s dog, Shiloh they chose to support the charity, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) – it’s estimated that around 1.25 billion animals have been killed across Australia as a result of the bushfires.
Rael’s Charity Mat Class goes Global
On Saturday 25 January Rael taught a charity mat class to a packed out studio at HQ (with special guest, Shiloh). The class was live-streamed across the globe so our all our BASI family could join in.
A special shout out goes to our Cairns host studio, Cairns Pilates Barre who gathered together a group of super dedicated Pilates lovers at 4am in the studio to follow along with Rael.
Thank you to Rael, BASI HQ and everyone who attended and donated. Rael’s class is still available on the BASI YouTube channel.
100% of the proceeds of the class and online donations made through the Go Fund Me campaign will be sent to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to help with the recovery efforts for the wildlife and habitats impacted by the bushfires.
Donate Now This fundraiser closes on 16 February 2020 (11.59pm PST) .
BASI Pilates Australia Host Studios Unite
Closer to home our BASI Australia host studios also united to fundraise for Bushfire Relief.
On Saturday 1st February our host studios held special Charity Mat classes across the country. Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, Cairns, Canberra, Melbourne and the Gold Coast all opened their studios.
We are proud to announce that BASI Australia collectively raised more than $1650 which was donated to the Australian Red Cross.
A special mention goes to our Canberra host studio, The Pilates Centre who not only raised the highest amount ($520) but clients braved a ’state of emergency’ in Canberra to attend the class.
We would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to everyone that participated and donated to BASI Australia’s chosen charity – Australian Red Cross.
What you can do next?
A few weeks later and we are thankful for the rain now. But sadden that many international visitors have been discouraged to visit us as a result of the fires.
We want to encourage our international BASI friends to visit Australia in 2020. We support Australian Tourism’s campaign – #holidayherethisyear encouraging visitors to return to Australia and visit bushfire affected areas and support small businesses.
Rael Isacowitz will return to Australia in October 2020 for his Mentor Program and BASI Learn from the Leaders (LFTL) 2020 on the Gold Coast.
He will present at LFTL alongside international guest faculty – Sheri Long, Theo Botha and Meredith Rogers – a Pilates event not to be missed!

A Final Thank YOU
Rael summed up the BASI community spirit perfectly at the beginning of his Fundraiser Mat Class when he said…
‘It is the BASI ethos to act with compassion and to use our tools of exercise and movement to help people, and our planet.”
Thank you to every single one of YOU that helped our community and country at a time of need.
Love from your BASI Australia family x
